LBC Newstalk crept into existence in the Spring of 1990. LBC Crown FM clearly did not work and there was no money left for big launches, so the name was quietly changed and many of the idiosyncrasies of the old station (like the news writing rules) disappeared.
In order to stem the losses there were massive redundancies among the staff coupled with the employment of two high profile presenters, Angela Rippon and Michael Parkinson, to present at breakfast and mid-morning respectively. Andrew Neil joined for Sunday morning and Mike Carlton at drivetime after a while.
