Worked for Roger Francis in both Gough Sq and Hammersmith in MCR and programme engineering. I have lots of wonderful memories of LBC in the 80s. Many a hectic morning with the Radio Car round central London!

Hi John
Nice memories - I was Robbie's regular financial phone-in expert and I'm in the 10th anniversary shot - I'm going to see if I still have the jumper although I know it won't fit - so tomorrow (6 October 2010) I'm going to pin it on...
I really miss Mike Sparrow - a good mate - keep up the good work - and didn't Roger's pictures evoke memories.

Well, this is a nostalgia week, first I find Roger's photos and then this. I did wonder if the Vin Bootle jewellery was THE Vin Bootle ex editor of Rush Hour?

I worked in the newsroom from 1972 to 1974 ish first as a newsroom sec then as Mike Field's secretary. It probably rates as one of the best jobs I have ever had, we had so much fun, there were off days but the better days outnumbered them.

It's sad to see so many of the oldies now passed away but a good many are still with us.

I am now retired from full time at the BBC ended up in Post Production Sound but still work part time for Audience Services as a steward keeping the audiences in order. That's all I ever do,keep people in order!!

I'm still in contact with Cathy Glossop now Sumner for anyone that remembers her and me for that matter.

I have some photos of that wonderful panto Aladdin that Nick Handl produced.

I would love to have a reunion just to see if I can recognise anyone.

Nicely set up, clear and easy to navigate. Plus much useful stuff. My main interest is RISC OS and the Z88.

This is a copy of an email sent to John Allen in case any guests can help me out (even song names will help!):

Hi,

I was a child when I used to listen to LBC Newstalk 97.3. One of my most vivid memories was this emotional, yet, authoratative music that Angela Rippon used to talk over. I think there were two versions, or at least two sequences. They had a trumpety, or brassy lead/riff/melody.

Next, LBC used to play a House tune around 5am. It was really dreamy and nighttime-esque. I think it had organs in it.

And I still can hear the Robbie Vincent's Nightline theme tune with the phone number being voiced over on it.

Would you have clips of any of these please?

Thanks

Regards

I am a new listener to your station and admire the way you make the show seems as if I am having a personal chinwag and listening to a close friend. My mother was a avid fan of Adrian Love, all those years ago, and I have to say your show is really addictive and I am looking forward to further indepth and uptodate discussions. Keep up the good work!

Hi John
I was just musing around looking for Tony Williams and google dropped me here! I remember spending hours(Sunday mornings I think)around 1981-2-3 rebuilding my car Mk 2 1600 E with Reggae Rockers Blasting (from my Wog Box-what a name)out of my parents garage in a quiet country lane in Kent I am not sure if any of the Neighbours had ever heard Reggae before but having moved from Croydon at the popular and Very Educated age of 17 I soon changed that,Some of them still dont talk to me now. I only wanted to say, Great site and thank you for Reggae Rockers it was the best reggae show of all time and do you you know if Tont W is still doing anything similar. Regards Vince

hello i worked for lbc as phone operator and sometime producer 1992-1995 - mike allen dubbed me 'spatula fingers' after one spectacular balls up on his quiz one night when i managed to cut off callers half way thru calls and cut to people who didnt realise they were on air ..but in true lbc tradition still went on to produce pete murray and some of the night time programmes.. it was a mad but great place to work

I love the LBC page. I have lots of fond memories of the station when it was in its heyday from say 1989 - 1993. Lots of name changes and owners over the years but still out there in London on 97.3FM

Surprised and amused to find my name in the schedules and on the net for March 1st 1979!
Unlike most of your contributors I have been more on the other side of the microphone, being interviewed rather than presenting!
Brings back some good old memories of crashing vocals and long gaps when I misjudged the intros! Also reminds me not to say 'ermm' and 'err' when public speaking!

Keep up the good work!
